AT THE HOME OF AENEAS
Did you know that Pomezia hosts the of Aeneas?
At the "house" of Aeneas
Did you know that Pomezia hosts the "house" of Aeneas? The origins of this territory are closely linked to the figure of the Trojan hero who, once he won the war against the Rutuli of Ardea, married Lavinia and founded a city, Lavinium, in her honour.
In the locality of Pratica di Mare, a few km from the center of Pomezia, stands the "Lavinium" Civic Archaeological Museum. It is a multimedia and interactive space that houses the finds from the nearby archaeological site.
Everything is designed to involve the visitor, who is both a spectator and a protagonist of ancient history: in this regard, we point out the talking statues, which recount the rites of passage from youth to adulthood, and the optical theatre, in which a miniature priest presents the religious ceremonies of the time.
The showpiece of the exhibition is the statue of Minerva Tritonia. The goddess is represented in warfare, with the god Triton at her side, just as she was described by Virgil in the Aeneid.
In the room dedicated to Aeneas it is possible to "enter" the ship and learn in detail the journey made by the hero and his companions to reach the Lazio coast.
Finally, events and educational workshops are frequently organized to let children experience local history firsthand.
In short, a museum for the whole family, which for its innovations has obtained the Quality Mark of the Lazio Region and the 1st Prize for the best layout at the 12th international edition of the Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism in Paestum.
“Vivere il Territorio” is a project of “Viaggio o Son Desta?”.
